Strengthening UI in the Global Perspective: THE IR 2025 & QS WUR 2026 Workshop

Bogor, October 21–22, 2024 – Universitas Indonesia (UI) held a workshop on the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings (THE IR) 2025 and Quacquarelli Symonds World University Rankings (QS WUR) 2026 at the Royal Tulip Gunung Geulis. The event aimed to strengthen UI’s strategies to improve its global ranking and enhance its international competitiveness.

On October 21, 2024, the agenda was opened by remarks from the Head of UI’s Bureau of Transformation, Risk Management, and Monitoring Evaluation (TREM), Dr. Vishnu Juwono, SE, MIA, Ph.D. He emphasized the data cycle and deadlines for data submission for QS WUR 2026 and THE Impact Rankings, set for November 11, 2024. Dr. Vishnu also highlighted the importance of faculty contributions in gathering data on academic peers and employee peers to ensure data validity in the ranking process.

In the first session, UI recognized outstanding faculties and units in the UI Awards. The Faculty of Medicine secured first place in the Best Data category, followed by the Faculty of Nursing and the Directorate of Research and Community Service (DPPM). In the Best Person in Charge category, the Faculty of Administrative Sciences took first place, followed by the Environmental Health and Safety Bureau (BLLH) and the Faculty of Vocational Studies. The Faculty of Public Health was awarded first place in the Best SDGs Microsite category, followed by the Faculty of Administrative Sciences and the Faculty of Humanities.

Dr. Vishnu Juwono also presented UI’s progress in THE Impact Rankings. Based on the 2024 methodology, UI saw significant improvements in several SDGs, such as SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), rising from rank 28 to 23, and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), moving up from rank 64 to 35. Despite declines in some other SDGs, UI remains nationally outstanding in specific SDGs such as SDG 2, 3, 6, 7, and 9.

In the next session, Dr. Dian Ekowati, SE, MSi, M.AppCom (OrgCh), Ph.D., moderated by Dr. Vishnu Juwono, shared insights from Universitas Airlangga’s five-year journey in enhancing academic reputation and managing employer reputation data. The strategies focused on strengthening governance and developing data-driven Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to support Universitas Airlangga’s global reputation.

On October 22, 2024, the event opened with remarks by Dr. Rahmi, SHum, MSc, Ph.D., followed by a presentation from Mr. Rachman Kurniawan of the National Secretariat for SDGs. He highlighted the crucial role of universities in achieving the 2030 SDGs targets and fostering collaboration with the government to improve standings in THE Impact Rankings. The event also included the finalization of data collection for THE IR 2025 and QS WUR 2026.

This series of activities underscores UI’s commitment to continuous innovation and strengthening its global ranking, reaffirming its vision of becoming a world-class university with ever-evolving standards of higher education on the international stage.
